When High Performance Hides Distress

In both clinical and organizational settings, I’ve seen the same pattern unfold across industries, roles, and continents: a neurodivergent professional—brilliant, reliable, hyper-competent—is applauded as a high performer. They take on extra work. They double-check their emails for tone. They are praised for their attention to detail, their dedication, their drive.

And then, seemingly without warning, they disappear. Burnout leave. Medical leave. A resignation letter.
